Has anyone here ever had a problem with pick pockets in the RLD? I was warned by a friendly window girl about them and told not to keep my wallet in my back poket.

Im always worried about them when ive walking around the RLD. Should i be so paranoid? What can i do to stop them stealing my cell phone and wallet? I do not to carry more then 100euros with me at a time

They're a big problem.. Only carry what you will need on that outing and make sure you have more than one source of cash. Having pockets that are hard to dip into is also important.

Anyone who carries their wallet in their back pocket deserves to be pick pocketed. It may be less comfortable but front pocket is the only place. I also keep my mobile in a pouch on my belt, and I have never had any problems, and trust me I have been in many dodgy places.

I agree with Wan King. If you need someone to tell you to watch your wallet in your back pocket , you shouldn't travel. That's true in every city, bar, train, plane, busy street, etc.

Carry cash. Make copies of your passport. Leave the rest locked up.

never ever fall for the old trick of telling someone the time when asked, or giving a light.
whilst you are doing this, their accomplice is happily going thro your pockets.

wallet in your back pocket ?

surely nobody is daft enough, are they ?

Stuff your pockets with damp hankies. They won't try to hard after the first one.

Apart from Trompettersteeg, Bethlemsteeg, and possibly the covered area, you shouldn't worry. These are some very narrow and tight areas which lend themselves to pickpocketing. Apart from that, just don't let anyone violate your personal space and it won't happen to you. Pickpocketing relies on tight spaces and clusters of people to be effective. With that in mind, watch yourself on the trams, where you're far more likely to lose your wallet.

Anyone daft enough to carry their wallet in a hip pocket deserves all they get! Having said that, there are always plenty of both uniformed and plain clothed police in the RLD should you need them.
