Everyone in the RLD will speak English, as will virtually anyone you might come into contact with during your time in the 'Dam.

It is not a problem in Amsterdam. The Dutch are usually multi lingual and will be sure to understand you!

Take the A13 and A4 motorway , follow the signs that say "Amsterdam", and stop whining about your inadequate language skills. ;-)

Ahhhh! I see you are driving to Amsterdam, well one point to be aware of is that your car will be a prime target for being broken into by just about anyone with criminal intent! Be sure to get secure garage parking at night!!! AND if you can, take your stereo out of the car when ever it is parked, a few €'s for a stereo in a pub for drugs! A much better bet is to leave the car at home and get the train from Rotterdam to CS.

Should I use English or German, or does it matter?

English, unless you are after 70 year olds..
These days young Dutch and Germans speak to each other in English, often extremely well.
