Favorite airports for a Connection ?

it’s called a layover for a very good reason. My favorites

FRA – Within 60 minutes of landing you can be wandering Frankfurt’s Eros Towers. Cost is about €35 for 20 min. I once did this with a 2:10 connection time but that was cutting it close, 3 hrs will allow you to get back to a domestic flight and 4 for an Int’l. But the towers aren't why FRA is #1. With a little more time (and I’ve done this intentionally numerous times) you can visit one of the cities FKK’s. Palace is my favorite in the city centre, though F35 and others have their appeal. With a bit more time a trip to Oase or World is worthwhile.

AMS – Similar to FRA, you can be in the heart of Amsterdam’s famous RLD in less than 60 minutes of getting to your gate (if you know where you’re going and passport control is quick then 45 minutes isn’t unusual.) Need I say more. Oh, cost is €50 for 20 min.

ZRH – So many options. My favorite is a 15 min taxi ride to FKK Club Swiss. Or about an 18 minute train to the Hauptbahnhof and a 10 minute walk across the canal to Niederdorf puts you in the heart of Zurich’s RLD.

LHR – Seems to always take about an hour from gate to SOHO and the famous Walk-Ups. Cost ranges from £20 - £75 depending on time and services. Most places have a menu posted listing the prices. There are also some Walk-Ups in Shepherd’s Market and there are a few good sauna clubs. Though the city has been doing a good job of closing down the clip joints (£200 for 20 minutes talking with a lady?), I’d avoid any strip clubs. If you connect through LGW you’re only 90 minutes away or if, like me, you come in one place and out another then almost every route will take you through the city and a stop off in SOHO is a must.

BKK – This city very much lives up to the English version of it’s name. While there’s fun to be had, the likelihood of being ripped off is extremely high in this country if you don’t know what to look for. Shops accusing people of shoplifting, taxi drivers demanding exorbitant extra fees before letting you out of the cab, etc. It’s about a 45 minute drive (or bus ride) from/to the airport and passport control here is not very fast so plan on about 90 minutes minimum from gate to sitting in a hostess club. If you have the time though, this is an experience you’ll never forget. Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy rank at the top of my list, just watch out for the TS’s in Nana if that’s not your thing.

VIE – I have connected through here a couple of times and the 20 min trip in to visit Goldentime FKK is very much worth it.

MUC – There are a number of reasonable FKK’s in Munich (Sudfass Oase my favorite) with most reachable via s-bahn/u-bahn within 60 - 75 minutes of your gate. Best option if you have time though is FKK Coliseum in Augsburg. It’s a 1 hour bus and 10 min taxi, but worthwhile if you can spend at least a couple of hours there.

EDI – OK, like VIE, this isn’t exactly a major hub, but I go through at least twice a year. Edinburgh’s saunas are the draw with London Street and Blair the two best but there are about 15 other good options. Each usually has 6 – 10 girls working. Entry/Room: £20. Girl: £40 - £65. My ATF in the entire world is Andrea at London Street.

LGW – Minimum 90 minutes from gate to SOHO. But if you have the time…

BCN – Within 45 min via train/metro you can be sitting in one of Barcelona’s many brothels. Felina (Near Les Corts metro) is my favorite but others are certainly worth a visit.

Honorable mentions include GVA, CPH, MAN, BRU, HEL, CGN, and TXL which all offer good entertainment options that I’ve taken advantage of between flights.

Viva Yotel ! If all else fails LHR, LGW, and AMS all have Yotels (yotel.com) which are affordable rent-by-hour (4 hr minimum) bedroom pods. You’ll need to pre-arrange for someone through an escort service (and pre-reserve a pod) and then plan to meet at a café in the airport and then walk to the Yotel together. This will also allow you to take a shower (maybe 2 if she’s up for one?) and freshen up before continuing on with your journey which is alone worth the cost of the pod.

Thanks for the valuable reference material, nice to have the essentials collected like that.

I vaguely recall a post about a brief layover in SIN (double-entendre anyone?), which for me
would be an alternative to BKK. Care to comment?

I had another question, but googling "goldentime fkk vienna" answered it comprehensively.

Amazing research Tap.

SINGAPORE
As I lived there I have not actually done this as a stopover.

Changi Airport immigration: say 15 minutes
Changi Airport to Geylang Road: 20 minutes by taxi or tube

The brothels are in the even numbered side roads ("lorongs"), up to 22, on the south side of the road. They are signified by a red light outside.

BANGKOK
Arriving at the old airport very early due to unusual absence of traffic I decided to get a massage in the terminal. To my delight I was able to get a happy ending included in the package. I believe that full service could be had at the hotel linked to the old airport.

No knowledge of the new one.

I wish I know about the options in Zurich when I last visited years ago....

May I suggest HKG with a stop over in Macau via the hydrofoil?

Regards,
Fred

Hi Tab,

I am glad to hear that. :)

If you get a package ticket at one of the sex tourist shops near the Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong, you literally ride the hydrofoil for free.

Stay tuned for the full story.

Fred

Connected in VIE but by golly the shortest I could schedule was 5 hours layover. Just got back from Goldentime (Vienna, not near Venlo/Roermond). Good lunch, great girls,... What's not to like about long layovers? He he he he

Well done, Tab. What's the pricing structure at GT Vienna? Are they just as expansive as the clubs in Amsterdam?

Fred

Hi Tab,

"VIE – I have connected through here a couple of times and the 20 min trip in to visit Goldentime FKK is very much worth it"

What would you recommend for a 4 hours layover in Vienna during an early afternoon?

Regards,
Fred

I would say the risks mentioned about Bangkok are overstated. The chances of genuine rip offs, as opposed to slipping a couple of drinks onto the bar bill are quite low. Most people don't experience any real problems that can't be avoided by staying awake..

A couple of additions/extensions:

FRA: Possible to be in a towel in Palace within 45 minutes of landing because of extremely efficient Passport control. I've never waited more than 15 at FRA Passport control. 45 minutes would be using a taxi. Plan on 60 minutes if using the S/U Bahn combination. Oase is probably possible in under an hour if you take a cab. Add thirty minutes if you are doing the S/S -Bahn plus cab from Friedrichsdorf route.

DUS: 75 minutes from off the train to sitting in my bathrobe at Freudenbergstrasse 39 in Bochum. S-Bahn (or Regio Bahn if you are lucky) + Stassenbahn. Good lockers in Bochum HBF for storing luggage.
