Quote: I should have known "rokin" was smoking
not quite :)
"roken" (spoken with a long 'o') is "to smoke"; "rook" (with the same long 'o') is "smoke"
the Rokin is a main street in Amsterdam. Originally it was part of the river Amstel, and was known then as Rak-in (a "rak" is an old Dutch word for a straight body of water). Hence, on one side you have the Dam rak and on the other, the Rakin (now Rokin). Amsterdam of course takes its name from Amestelledamme, which later became Aemsterdam...

ps: Puma has the translation of my sig correct; "dikke sigaren" is code for joints, and of course the thing about the teachers was wonderfully illustrated by the bit of rioting on Museumplein at the LAKS demonstrations in November ;) it's also a bit of an inside joke because it comes from one of my first Dutch language CDs.

I remove the pits from maraschino cherries. My hands have been stained pink for 37 years. I hold the record for the N.W. chapter at 7071 in a 4 hour shift. Just try and beat it.
Peace,
