One for the UK guys, this.

Back to basics.

The best City of London estimates are that by 2009 the Euro will have parity with the UK Pound. Following that, the slickers are estimating that it is not impossible for the UK Pound to fall in value even further against the Euro. In other words, very soon the question will be not "How many Euros are there to the Pound?", but "How many Pounds are there to the Euro?"

Short-term (1-2 years), things do not look good.

And that's before taking into account the "cleaning-up" operation of the RLD, etc., due to start soon.

Never mind, it's nearly Christmas.

It seems new lows are hit very regularly now!! I've been watching for weeks wanting to change some up, it was at 1.25 just before i had the money and has plummeted since and sitting just above 1.10 with no sign of improvement. Looks like i'm pretty screwed for my next visit. Going to have a substantial amount of money less just based on the exchange rate.

Really gutted about this :-(

Im just starting to get my funds together for febuary.
Cant belive how bad its getting.I will go this time as i pre
booked my ticket for travel.
i will look at june after but if the euro is level or worse
than 1.10 there will be no more Amsterdam trips for me.
Cost me a couple of hundred more for my budget this time.

50 euro for 15 mins might aswell stay in soho or a brothel
60gbp half hour.I dont like doing a holiday on the cheap
so im getting the funds together now for this trip but will just save the money
after febuary until things change.

Also what you get in your hotel for the price in Amsterdam
is not good value either.

Im really gutted the way its gone i feel like i found amsterdam to late.
I just hope things pick up im not expecting the days of 1.40 anymore
but 1.20 -1.30 would help with the expenses.

i think after my jan trip, i will be cutting down from 5 to just 2 visits. per year

as stated before, you can get better service in the UK without the hassle of flying/hotels etc.

this is a very sad day as the euro this time last year was 1.40 to the pound

be sure, when the euro is the same as the £ the british government will go over to euros

Meanwhile the Euro has been dropping against the Dollar since the summer. If the Pound has been dropping against the Euro, well it might just be time for Americans to visit the UK!

just checked...

1 Pound = 1.5 Dollar
1 Euro = 1.33 Dollar

not great, but better than it's been for a while.

Yeah, I'm still highly annoyed... it was around 1.26 when I was there less than 2 weeks ago! But still *much* better than what I paid over the summer...

Tell me about it!

I live on the border with the Irish republic and get a good rate with my work.

In the past 4 weeks we have dropped the exchange for staff from €1.50 down to €1,30 for the £

Massive difference for me although it is worse if you dont live on the N.Ireland border and work with both currencies day in day out.

So how much is the Batht worth today as I'm of to Pattaya in April ;)

I know my opinion is not going to be very popular here, but working in the Netherlands this exchange rate is doing wonders for paying back my British student loan! :D

I worked it out tonight

I normally get 2000 euro for each holiday hotel inclulded
so i have around 400 euro a day

my first holiday at 1.40 + cost me £1400+ for my 2000 euro
Last holiday at 1.25 cost me £1600 for my 2000 euro
febuary at 1.10 or less will cost me £1800 £1900 for my 2000 euro

I genrally save for 3 months go for 5 days etc the exchange rate
is pricing me out of 3 or 4 trips a year will have to cut down to
2 a year or shorter braks like weekends etc.

Going to Amsterdam is all i look forward to these days quite sick about
it all really:((.

The hotel for my Feb trip, booked already, appears to be getting more expensive with each passing day. I've already cut a night's stay out of my usual stopover to compensate for the expense. Just to do my bit to add to the doom and gloom on this thread; it looks like it might stay like this for years.

The poor exchange rate for the British will make us spend it more wisely from now on, so we will still make savings... rather than just going with whoever we want to, we can now concentrate on quality by doing our homework here. Also, at least the Americans are getting a better deal.

So for me, the only problem will be paying for my hotel when I get there, as it'll be 1:1 ratio. After that, I'll just spend wisely and still have a cracking time. So if I spend £1200 now over 4/5 days, including hotel, food and ladies etc.. I'll still spend that now by cutting sessions shorter and/or not having so many visits. So the trip won't cost me more.

End result will still be a sore cock and a smile ;)

The immediate cause of the recent fall in the pound has been the interest rate differential against the euro. Brown dropped British central bank interest rates deeply and very quickly, while the ECB has been (as normal) more cautious. I'm not so sure the optimists amongst you are going to be happy, Trichet has already said that there will be no more euro interest rate cuts this year, and as long as euro rates are higher then (all other things being equal) the slide will continue. And of course at the moment Euroland looks to be economically stronger than Britain as well.

Interestingly enough a headline in today's German ARD (similiar to the BBC) web page reads:

"Briten diskutieren vorsichtig über Euro-Beitritt"
or
"British cautiously discuss euro membership"

Now when Brown actually does let such a debate become public it will get interesting!

One possible silver lining also - with people deciding not to travel so much, there may be some serious discounting on fares/ hotels etc. I've just noticed the flight I booked on BMIBaby is now going for £20 less than I paid for it a week ago. Bah!
