The comments in Europe(!) regarding the rate change seen today point to Euro weakness and not Sterling strength, the Euro has dropped against the dollar as well. Trigger was lower than expected inflation figures in Euroland, in the current climate these don't need to be too low!
The rate changes are good for some though, I was able to go shopping in the UK over the holidays and when I viewed prices on a one to one basis all was okay, even saw lots of bargains. For some reason that €1.50 rate has been burnt into my subconscious when I quickly assess value.

Sex in the UK is now cheaper than in the Dam. But I still prefer the relaxed and open attitude of the Netherlands. Please don,t let the politicians kill it.

Tiny,
If your provider of choice is the Post Office, I have noticed they have better rates if you order your currency online.

Best places are M&S and Tesco. They will give you 1.01.
I won't pay for sex anymore in the Dam sadly. 50 quid for a shag! And we all know that kamer experiences are not exactly the heights of sexual gratification.
I may even be tempted to try Singel for the first time! Although I have never done it before because I think they are mostly all dogs, one never knows thanks to Gordon Brown!
btw if you want shags at home try marmalade as someone said, or gentlemens parties:

Cocksure, what are you talking about?
Quote: "Best places are M&S and Tesco. They will give you 1.01."
Travelex are offering 1.0685.
Tesco are offering 1.0655.
Both rates are as of 22.08, 8th January 2009.

Fair enough I checked almost a week ago before sterling retraced from the low.
I won't lose sleep or waste shoe leather on the 3rd decimal place by the way.
