I looked at my U.S. passport yesterday and it expires on April 25th 2009. I plan on going to the Dam from 3/30-4/1. I just got off the phone with the Dutch Embassy and the disinterested staff member told me that I might not be let in because they want the passport to be good for at least 3 months after you date of departure. Am I about to cancel my trip or will they let me in?

I think that if you show them that you have a confirmed return ticket booked, they shouldn't give you a problem.

Maybe call your carrier ??

Good Luck

I guess its going to be interesting at the gate at Schipol. Its my own fault, but I fihgured if its valid thats fine. This is what I got off the Embassy website.

24 European countries are party to the Schengen agreement. This agreement eliminates all internal border controls between them. To enter one Schengen country is to gain up to 90 days of continuous travel between the member states. American citizens traveling for business or tourism are not required to have a visa for this initial entry into the Schengen area, but must have a passport valid three months beyond the proposed stay. (For a two week business trip, the passport must be valid for four months, for a two month holiday the passport must be valid for five months, for example.)

Will call my carrier and anyone else who will listen and try and shmooze them at the gate...Never a dull moment..

Can you not get it renewed in time? In the UK, you can pay extra and get your renewal super quick. No similar option over in the USA?

I just renewed my passport. I got it in the mail in 11 days! I sent it out two weeks ago on a saturday. It arrived this past week. It was a renewal so it was simple. It was only $75. I sent my income tax return out the same day. I haven't got my check yet. You can pay extra for an expedited passport. The state department seems to be working better than the treasury! Good luck!

Its possible the airline might not let you on the plane! Since you are located in NY city, it may be possible to get your passport renewed in a day or two. I don't know anything about this service, but they can do a renewal in 24 hours, although its at an obscene cost.

US PASSPORT Service on 376 Hudson St, NY, NY...Go there and as long as you are travelling within two weeks they will give you what you need, but they are strict about the fact that they are only dealing with people that are travelling within two weeks. 1-212-206-3500.

If you take in the moring they will give it back to you around 3:00 p m or so. Walk over to The Ear pub on Spring St. and have lunch......great place
