Finding Work / Exchange For Accommodation

Has anyone on here had any luck finding work in exchange for accommodation? Just wondering how easy it is / where I could try. I've emailed a few hostels but wondered if there's anywhere else?

A friend of mine did it at ITH in San Diego a long time ago, pretty sure they still do it. I went out to visit him and it was so much fun.
