Sorry, I've made a search and I still have no fresh news about Alkmaar. I see on hookers.nl that they still get numerous daily reports about this place, so maybe it's a sign that buiseness is still running there.

The best thing you can do is take that mission for ignatzmice and go there to find out by yourself how things have changed, your report would be precious. You are our eyes and our ears on the ground.

Visited Alkmaar today... first time since early January. No evidence of police. It all seemed just as usual to me.

Thanks for the update, sounds like good news. Did you check out both day and night shifts ? How was the quality of the selection available?

Was there at 3PM, Saturday... excellent selection imho :) No difference from my previous Alkmaar trips. I couldn't detect the issues raised in this thread.

Well, the mayor finally made a decision:

He rejected all appeals and ordered the landlord to close all 92 windows by september 1st :-/

I don't know if they can appeal again, it looks pretty final, so better go there while you still can...

A very bad decision, in my opinion.
But, I have heard there will be a closing down sale. Up to 50% off!

Extremely disappointing... I'm just glad I got to see it once, earlier this month. *sigh*... I keep hoping, one day, to log onto this site and actually find some good news for a change... :-(

I guess that's it then... don't think I'll bother going back for the cheese... lol. So can anyone suggest another place in NL where similar cost savings can be found???

Maybe Leeuwarden? Similar types of girls and still 35 euros.. Hear there's 100+ windows but didn't have a chance to visit last time I was in NL.

Yeah, I won't be back in NL until Aug 29, and I fear it'll all be gone by then. Just terrible... right now I'm trying to figure out a way to get over there before my planned Aug/Sep vacation. From what I've read, it seems the desire to close down the Achterdam is due to the presence of organized crime. Here's a novel idea.... given that it's not exactly difficult to spot the pimps, how about just growing a pair and shooting them dead on sight? Give them fair warning.... hey, if you're a shady-looking motherfucker just loitering around obviously not there to pay for sex, expect a bullet or two to the brain... fair enough? I think so...

No shit, you can't handle the job of policing the tiny Achterdam so you close it down ? If the Achterdam does close down it will be a sad , sad day for me- so many great memories of trips out there on cold winter nights. The NL seems to be loosing a bit of it's soul- WTF ?

To the Mayor of Alkmaar- if you shut down the Achterdam you are a dumb Kunt.

Is the Mayor doing this against the will of the citizens? Presumably not. I mean I'll likely visit there one last time a couple weeks from now. I'll miss it when it's gone. But we're just tourists. The town is free to set their own course.

My understanding was that there are still about 30 windows left, so how does the citizen against window prostitution really benefit?

The area will still be used for prostitution, and unless demand decreases in direct proportion to supply you still risk a similar number of visitors, with the likelyhood of groups hanging around until the girls become free; still the risk of drug dealers [and oher criminals] in the area.

There could be an increase in rent, from the remaining owners, leading to an increase in prices charged for S&F. The incentive for pimps remains [if not increases], perhaps even to have an alternative and attract punters to girls hidden away somewhere, or even on the streets. With all the dangers that incurrs.

If the owner of the 92 windows was involved in criminality, then a more sensible soultion would have been to merely revoke his [or her] license.

Then: either seize the assetts (i.e. the windows) or if Dutch law does not allow that, compulsory purchase the property or effectively force a sale by not allowing the owner to any other business from the windows.

A new legitimate owner can then re-open the 92 windows.

Possibly bad news for the rest of Dutch scene? Once these shady characters have been 'moved on' they'll just go to another city which, may result in further closures. I'm just speculating of course.
