The Greek place, Irodon, on the main square, is great. There are a dozen or so places around the square, and I have not had a bad meal at any of them. There is also an Asian place near the base of the windmill, about half way between the train station and the Achterdam. Sorry about the directions, but every time I eat there, I am too hammered to remember much. There is a bar and a coffeeshop a block south of the Achterdam, opposite sides of the street, along the main canal. I love the bar, and you can smoke whatever you like in the smoking cage. The coffeeshop, while convenient and cheap, has all the charm of a county jail, complete with the buzz-in security doors. Hookers.nl has a great interactive map of the Achterdam.

Lots of ees in their 20s for you. Few milfs. Some stunners with big asses. Alkmaar isn't for me but I like older women . Counted about 40 working girls there last time. No urinal for a pre shag piss anymore. It's been removed. Or is it just me who does that. Lol.

Alkmaar is fantastic, in short. Much more chilled and relaxed thN Amsterdam. I did not partake as I was mightily hung over but I was very impressed with the achterdam; it's everything singel should be. Also had decent food on the square, but I can't remember the name of the place sorry.
If I'd checked in here sooner and found out it was so cheap I might have risked the punt even whilst being worse for wear.
I'll do a full report when I'm not on my phone.

I second the Irodon. Also found the main square to be a great spot to chill with a beer and watch the world go by.

I also enjoyed my many Alkmaar experiences and trips.
It is a nice place to go with lots of bars/restaurants nearby.
For the best value sessions, Alkmaar is also a great option in Europe.

OK so, you shouldn't really pay more than 35 in alkmaar? ok, I don't want to overpay like a dumb tourist, thanks. what's the easiest way to get there by train from amsterdam central? is the rld far away from the alkmaar train station?

Amsterdam to Alkmaar Takes 40mins to an hour depending on the train, most are direct. It's a 15-20min walk from the station. Google Map
