Hey All,

This just in from Yahoo news. It seems that the sex industry in Deutschland is not raking in the bucks that everyone expected from the WM tourists.

I certainly did not encounter any WM tourists in the clubs on my recent visit .

Does this mean I can come over next week? :-)

Pepto- who has watched more soccer on TV in the last week than in the last 50 years! Sure beats baseball for excitement.

Whoa there, bubba. Watch your step there. I could never provide an FKK shuttle to anyone who openly bad-mouthed the national pastime. Just for that, I may never tell you when Olga returns ;-))))

Seriously though, how can anyone get so excited about a sport where no one's allowed to fall on a loose ball?

Cheers,

Dedalus, who had a decent curve-ball in his younger days

Hey ded.
I wasn't bad mouthing baseball- just comparing energy levels. I've been to many of the classic World Series games including the one where Reggie Jackson hit three homers off the Dodgers to win it in 76.

I was switching TV channels back and forth between baseball and footy- in the same span of time I watch the batter step back five times , adjustments the pitcher's cap, scratch his ass, step off the mound, finally the pitch- fouled off to left. In the same span of time 22 guys ran 3.7 miles and battled over the ball without a break in the action or a stop of the clock. I guess as I age I need more and more stimuli- but that's why I go to the FFK's too.
It's 15:07 in europe- shouldn't you be preparing to get laid soon? :-)

Hey Pep,

You saw Reggie hit those three taters?!?. You da' man, Peppy! Now tell me that any of this WM stuff could be THAT exciting.

I remember when Mookie Wilson got the hit in Game 6. Damn near tore my heart out as I was a BoSox fan that year. But that WAS exciting.

I would love to be heading for a joy house about now, but I will have to wait for a few days. The schedule just ain't allowing it right now. I may have a plan or two for the coming week though.

Cheers,

Dedalus, Who will take Albert Pujols and Curt Shilling in a trade over Oliver Kahn and Ronaldo any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Hey, if the battle is not with an over-abundance of routy WM fans attending the FKKs, is not then the challenge to find hotel room at an affordable price? Ah, just wait till those room rates fall off a bit post WM, then is the time to go back...Although, a true boy scout troop leader like Dedalus would probably camp out in a near by field if he had to in order to hit BHH or Palace on his long drive South...

Hi guys,

You don't have to wait until the world cup is over to see hotel room prices fall. They are falling already as teams are heading home. The last game that will be played in Frankfurt will be next Saturday and after that we are back to dirt cheap accommodation until messe season.

Hey ST,

Actually, I do know some decent campgrounds in that area and I do own a pretty nice "Zelt" that I can put up in no time.

Hey Chivaz,

Baseball is all speed and hand/eye coordination. It is tough to learn well at our age, but not hard to enjoy. Every year around the start of April, the following appears in the International Herald Tribune. It makes a sentimental old fool like me feel like a true expat:

THE CRACK OF A BAT

Dick Roraback

Away on this side of the ocean
When the chestnuts are hinting of green
And the first of the café commandos
Are moving outside for a fine
And the sound of spring beats a bolero
As Paree sheds her coat and her hat
The sound that is missed more than any
Is the sound of the crack of a bat.
There's an animal kind of feeling
There's a stirring down at Vincennes Zoo
And the kid down the hall's getting restless
Taking stairs like a young kangaroo
Now the dandy is walking his poodle
And the concierge sunning her cat
But the heart's with the Cubs and the Tigers
And the sound of the crack of a bat.
In the park on the corner run schoolboys
With a couple of cartons for props
Kicking goals à la Fontaine or Kopa
While a little guy chikies for cops
“Goal for us,” “No it's not,” “You're a liar,”
Then the classical shrieks of a spat
But it's not like a rhubarb at home plate
Or the sound of the crack of a bat.
Here the stadia thrill to the scrumdowns
And the soccer fans flock to the games
And the chic punt the nags out a Longchamp
Where the women are dames and not dames
But it's different at Forbes and at Griffith
The homes of the Buc and the Nat
Where the hotdog and peanut share laurels
With the sound of the crack of a bat.
No, a Yank can't describe to a Frenchman
The rasp of an umpire's call
The continuing charms of statistics
Changing hist'ry with each strike and ball
Nor the self-conscious jog of the slugger
Rounding third with the tip of his hat
Nor the half-smothered grace of a hook slide
Nor the sound of the crack of a bat.
Now, the golfer is buffing his niblick
And the tennis buff's tightening his strings
And the fisherman's flexing his flyrod
Like a thousand and one other springs
Oh, the sports on both sides of the ocean
Have a great deal in common, at that
But the thing that's not HERE
At this time of the year
Is the sound of the crack of a bat.

Cheers,

Dedalus, who is often in the cat-bird seat
