I'm from Chicago. We have some of the best pickpockets in the US. Disney World is another place you can count on your stuff disapearing. I think it's the same anywhere in the world where tourists travel. As a rule, I walk around with a look of "don't mess with me" and a knowledge of who is around me and where I'm going. I've never been bothered in Amsterdam or anywhere and I'm what some consider an attractive female.

Common sense as you would use in any travels is all you need. Holland's no worse than anywhere else. I'm arriving Friday for a weeks visit. I can't wait!

The premise of your original question is retorical and can not be answered
definitively, since no one lived your experiences, or has your taste of judgement.
"HAVE THINGS IMPROVED?" There is no correct answer. Such questions,
phrased and presented the way you did, are usually ignored or not taken
