Hi folks
Just out of curiosity really, how many out there do trips to Amsterdam solo?
I've frequently visited Amsterdam for the past 10 years, more so over the last couple doing roughly 2-4 trips a year lately but i've always gone with a friend or two.
Most now don't want to go, for one reason or another. So i'm left in a predicament of travelling solo (something i've never really done).

I have lost count as to how many times I have been to Amsterdam but basically 2-3 times per year on average since 2009 with two prior to that. I only went once with friends and that was my worst trip. I have met friends and family there but I have essentially travelled solo. Solo travel for me is awesome.

Many times...The most challenging was the first time I traveled after I had lost 95% of my hearing.

I’ve only ever been to Amsterdam solo. I think it’s actually better than being in Amsterdam with friends. Much more freedom travelling alone than in a group. Amsterdam is a place where you want to be able to be spontaneous. You’re walking through De Wallen, you catch “the look” from an absolute stunner, but oh shit, you’re running late to meet your buddy. No bueno.

Many many times solo, don’t mind the odd trip or meet up but there is definitely something to savour about just doing your own thing and completely letting the rest of life withdraw to the recesses for a few days

I have travelled both solo and with friends. Travelling solo has its pitfalls but it also has its pros. You can do what you want when you want. Its up to you. You are more likely to make new friends. Or if you just want to punt then you have no mates getting in the way.

Ive been going to Ams since may 2013 and after being let down by 2 mates on the first trip ive always travelled alone. I love it....get up when I want, go out when I want, session, drink and smoke when I want.

Yea, solo is the way to go. That being said, about once a year or every other, my friend, who I've known way too long because we're that old, and I both fly into town. Even then as two, we frolic solo; but we'll meet up for breakfast after lunch time, and might then plan to have dinner together too. Coffee shops are his gig, and girls are mine; but preferences don't stop us from crossing paths between meals.
If I'm not just wondering the streets alone, I might be shopping, or might stop into a museum. On multiple occasions over multiple years, we've tried together visits to the Rijksmuseum, my favorite; but each of those attempts ended up with my being just as happy there alone. We do often manage trips to a likely Haarlem, or to Alkmaar; because mutual interests keep us both motivated. We've learned to respect each others needs, so we might not even meet up for a day here and there - that's traveling "solo" together.

Originally I came over with groups of friends, but as time went on I found that being alone was much easier.
Echoing above, solo trips are far less hassle and are very relaxing, I find. Not to mentioned you've got the freedom, again as already stated.
Last going off, I haven't been since 2017 (wow that has gone fast!), but the last few trips was with a friend who was also into mongering. When it came to "the deed" however, we would always split up and meet up later on.

I have been going to Amsterdam since 2016 for business at least once in every month. I never notice anyone solo. It feels like i am the only one alone which is uncomfortable. I usually head back to the hotel and order an escort or something :-( Where you guys hiding then ?

I've been mixed with friends and solo. I always found with groups of friends that it can be easy to sneak off for a quick punt haha.
But yeah, going solo gives you freedom to not only see whatever girl you want (eg. I like all types of women but don't want to risk some fetishes being seen by friends) plus you can go to any attraction you want. I'd definitely recommend staying in a hostel (tho I must admit that Amsterdam is harder than most places to meet hostel friends at times) and if you go to some things like bar crawls you will meet people who are also solo (they can be a bit of a rip off but its a price worth paying sometimes so that you can have a bit of fun).
On a side note, doing 'touristy' things like bar crawls in Amsterdam, I've found it very easy to pull. I've done the same bar crawl 6 times and pulled 5, so decent odds haha.

lilji, which places do the bar crawls nowadays? I've not seen any the past few times I've been. I was approached by one a few years ago at the plays bar. lilji wrote: if you go to some things like bar crawls you will meet people who are also solo (they can be a bit of a rip off but its a price worth paying sometimes so that you can have a bit of fun).

Yeah that's the one, Players Bar. It seems to have a connection to St Christopher's hostel/Belushi's (The Winston is the 'club' you end up at) and it takes you to really really shit bars but it's more about meeting other folk.
Also, don't pay the 20 Euro on the website Meet someone on the street and you'll get it for 10Euro. There a a free shot at every bar (5 or 6 bars) so I suppose it works out alright.
