Some places I recommend:
  • Koh-I-Noor - They have two locations, but the one near Dam Square can be very busy, so I usually go to the other one. It's the best Indian restaurant I've been to in Amsterdam (and I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants in Amsterdam), and one of the best I've been to anywhere.

  • De Bazar - It's at the Albert Cuyp market, so a fair way out of the center, but it's a big world restaurant with nice food and good value.

  • Tempoe Doeloe - A bit on the expensive side, but the food is amazing and is a world away from the usual bland Indonesian food you'll frequently find in the Netherlands, and some of it can be quite spicy. You may want to make a reservation if you want to go here as it often gets completely full.

  • Ramen Ya - I've only been once to Japan, and I miss the food there so much. Ramen Ya is the one and only place I've found that really satisfies my cravings for some good Japanese style ramen.

  • Manneken Pis - If you're just looking for a snack, you can't go wrong here. Located on the main street heading away from central station, I skipped this place for many years assuming it was just a tourist trap, but their Belgian-style fries are some of the best I've had in the country, and the samurai sauce is so good.
