I tried to search for info as to what Halloween is like in Amsterdam, but just got tons of hits for FKK Halloween parties...which sound great!

Anyway, do the Dutch "observe" Halloween on Oct 31? Does it go by without much, or is there a parade or parties or something? Are hotels an issue or anything like that?

thanks! neurosynth

This is purely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn't think that, in an overwhelmingly Protestant country, a celebration of the eve of All Saints Day would stir much interest.

Um, I don't think the religious roots of this holiday have much to do with present day practice in the US or elsewhere.

i.e. the Dutch like a good party as much as anyone...not to mention an excuse to play "dress up"...just thinking there might be a parade or club parties or people in costumes or whatever...

maybe someone here has actually been in town on that day and can help...

cheers, neurosynth

Halloween isn't really celebrated in Holland.

In the past it was probably only known for the movies with the same name :-)

The last couple of years though, thanks to american influence and of course commercial reasons, it seems to be picking up a bit.
So I'm sure there will be some things organized in Amsterdam, even if it is just for the tourists.

But don't expect to see people all dressed up going "trick or treating" through the streets.

We have our own party for that, called "Sint Maarten", celebrated on Nov. 11
That's when all the little kids go door to door with lanterns singing songs to get candy.
