Yes Neuro, quite different to a privee. OK, maybe the 3 Jan Bik clubs I've visited around NL were nothing like as social as my local neighbourhood relax clubs in Madrid but still far more interesting than dropping into the likes of Park 118. Hanging out with the babes in the bar can be a lot of fun.

hmmm...I've been to American brothels where they have a bar and there is hanging out etc.
Also, I've been to Amsterdam prive's where hanging out didn't at all seem like an option...I was quickly brought to a waiting room, shown some girls quickly, and it was more or less choose or leave.

But if that is the common usage, I'll go with it...

brothel = just choose and go to the room for sex

privehaus = hanging out at the bar and socializing encouraged

is this the general consensus?

Neuro,... you lost me now! I've visited about 60 privhaus around NL and haven't found any with a bar other than Nieuwe Kontact and Casa Cherda which I think classifies themselves as clubs. Whereas JB and many other "clubs" offer the pre-nookie social interaction.

I would say that a brothel is a general description of an
"establishment" where you can pay for sex.

Within that description, the 2 types being discussed here are:

1) A "prive" like Park118. You enter and are escorted to a room.
You are shown the ladies one by one. You choose a lady (or not)
and then proceed to a different room. You do not see any of the
other customers, they make a point of that. The experience is
quite private.

2) A "club" like Jan Bik. There is a common area with a bar. You
can hang out and drink, in public, with other customers (if there
are any). The girls also hang out, and you get take your time to
chat with them and check them out. If you pick a girl, you then
proceed to a room.

JB is a 5 minute walk from the Singel windows. 10 minutes from
Centraal Station. Only open at night. Worth a trip? Why not go in,
have a 3E beer, and check it out. I had some memorable times
there, but that was before the raid which chased out the illegal
eastern europeans.
