Cheap, but not cheerful. The room (a triple), which was bigger than I booked (a single) for only a €5 more per night, was rather dingey. It really needed a good painting!!! The hotelier reminded me of the "yeees. Heeellooooo." character from The Simpsons, though not as fat, or "stylish". There was a toothpaste mark on my overblanket, which, due to the weather, wasn't an issue, and it was there for EVERY night of my three night holiday. At least it didn't smell as bad as The (more modern but almost as dingey) Dam Hotel on Damrak. But hey, you're in Amsterdam, and the weather was generally great. So it was only for sleeping- after the obligatory night night joint- showering and changing. Therefore, a hostel would've been a better option.

However, as, I said, it is Amsterdam, so it didn't ruin my enjoyment. Nor did the minor rip-off on OZA (big swedish-type blonde at 72 calling herself Eva ).

Ik hoopt te gauw weer terug.
-pardon, mijn Nederlands. Ik ben net leren.

Dutch grammar is not my strong point. Corrections are so welcome.

OK, you asked for it ;-)

Ik hoop gauw weer terug te keren/komen.
I hope to return/come back soon

Sorry voor mijn Nederlands. Ik ben net begonnen met leren.
Sorry for my dutch. I've just begun with learning (translated literally)

Not bad!! Would love to hear you pronounce it though....;-)

So would I!!!!

Thanks slick. much appreciated. I listen to Radio Nederlands Wereldomroep to develop my ear, but the vocabulary is much wider than my text books and CDs, as well as being much faster in delivery.

I suppose patience, and living there is the key.
