Been to Amsterdam once before, but did'nt take the time to learn the red light area at all. Need some help with geography so my trip is a bit easier. WALLEN- WHAT DOES THAT REFER TO? COVERED AREA-WHERES THAT? LOOKED ON THE MAP AND SAW THERE ARE 2 RED L DISTRICTS...THE MAIN AND THE ONE REFERED TO AS SINGEL..BECAUSE OF THE CANAL CORRECT.WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO? STAYING AT A HOTEL (TULIP ) BY THEHOLLAND CASINO/VONDEL PARK AREA. BEST WAY TO GET TO THE DISTRICT WALKING OR SHOULD I TAKE A TAXI.? IS THERE A LANDMARK I CAN LOOK FOR TO TELL ME THE ENTRANCE TO THE DISTRICT? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE...

Hi Officer,

try again (to the left) the pull down menue and open "Maps"

Start with Walletjes1 and Walletjes2 and Singel for an orientation coming from Central Station.

Covered area (La Vie en Rose) is close to the Old Church in Walletjes, Singel is a more or less separated area.

A walk generally will do in Amsterdam

you're welcome

Wim

The third RLD is called de Pijp and is a short walk from your hotel, maybe 10 minutes. You'll find info about it if you do a search. Both the Singel and Pijp RLD's are more relaxed than the Wallen which is the most famous of the three. The Wallen is also the busiest. Tourists are welcome in all three but the Singel and the Pijp are off the beaten path a little so they tend to cater more to locals. Which is not to say that fellow Ignatzmicers aren't working tirelessly to wear a path in the cobblestones around all the RLD's, lol.

If you find any of these reports useful please show your thanks by not using ALL CAPS. It's like shouting at someone sitting two feet away.

You're as welcome here as any of us as far as I'm concerned. And I live in Seattle so I don't need to suck up to NYC cops very often, lol. Thanks for dropping the caps and have a blast on your trip!
