the whole complex at waterlooplien is both the city offices on one side, and the "Stopera"---the opera. the name comes from the protests against the old neighbourhood being torn down to make way for it. stop + opera=stopera.

the statue youre looking for is inside the stopera.

the little hand on the breast thing implanted in the sidewalk near the entrance to the oudekerk is by the same semi-anonymous artist. there are more statues by this person around town.

But the new Music Theater (Music building or Muziek gebouw) is in the harbor, from Central Station waterfrontside to the right, passed the rivercruiseships landingstages you see the modern Music Theater with the huge overlapping flat roof. It's adjacent to the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) where you often see the huge cruiseships.
