I agree. I book ahead whenever possible, wherever possible. Why wouldn't you want to?

(Of course I have a specific room at a specific hotel I like to return to).

everyone wants to do different things some people want to stay in hotels others want to stay in hostels because it would be cheaper so i was thinking that when we get over there we could just find somewhere and thats, that. Maybe it would be better if we booked than, just have to get the money of everyone for the deposit.

You should know: All experienced Amsterdam travellers know that it is always possible to get rooms in Amsterdam on a last minute walk-in basis. I don't know if there is some kind of special event going on in Amsterdam during your dates, but all things being equal, all you have to do is show up at Schipol Airport or CS and walk to the hotel reservations desk at either of these locations. (I like the Schipol one, it's really easy! Located in the Schipol Airport lobby between the Arrivals section of the Airport and the train staiton section.)

Just walk up to the hotel reservations desk at either location and you can often score good deals at hotels on a last minute basis. You have to pay a service fee of a few Euros to the desk, but they get you into rooms or hostels pretty efficiently. Just tell them how much you want to spend per night, and they will enter their computer lists and come up with all the available options.
