I go every December, usually a week or two before the holiday. I find something about the city in all the Christmas spirit a great draw. Aside from the expected cold weather and short daylight hours, all is relatively the same as the rest of the year. Plenty of action and no "price hikes" as you ask.

A plus is the reduced tourist influx, which makes everything a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. Pack plenty of layers and a waterproof jacket. Hat, gloves (especially when visiting the ladies!) and scarf -- when needed (usually about half the time I've traveled there in Decemmber) -- are a godsend. That wind can be bone-chilling...literally!

Enjoy!
