Mongering in Wellington, New Zealand

Late last year I had a rare business trip to Wellington, capital of New Zealand, and managed to set aside a little time for some field research,
which I've finally written up as a contribution to this fine forum.

Prices are NZD but I've put in the approximate (current) conversion from USD,AUD,EUR so you can see for yourself what a good deal it is.

I hadn't visited Wellington for over 15 years, and I was curious to see how things had changed, especially since prostitution has in the meantime been legalised - it was in some semi-tolerated legal limbo last time I was there, which meant services could not be explicitly sold or advertised, and you had to pay for a massage or something and then pay more to the girl for the real thing. Places that didn't bother with massage were called "Rap Parlours", which offered the dubious but legal service of a chance to "rap" with one of their ladies in private for a set amount of time, during which they inevitably accepted more money as a tip and then suddenly found they wanted to fuck you. Sometimes there seemed to be some wariness in case I was a cop, and sometimes there wasn't. Anyhow, I seem to recall paying around NZD160 for 1-hour outcall sessions that included some or all of GFE, DFK, DATY, 69 and BBBJ, though the fucking was always covered (not that I'd wanted it any other way).

Weed is illegal - though rumoured to be plentiful - in NZ, and I didn't feel inclined to hunt for any, so, sorry to Paniked et al, nothing for you here.

I didn't find any of the places I'd been to before, but I did notice that with legalisation there seemed to be lots of little privee brothels tucked away invisibly in residential districts. You find them from websites (google 'escorts new zealand' for a start), from the local phone book classified volume (the Yellow Pages, look for Escorts or Massage Parlours - there's even an entry in the index for Brothels, but it redirects to Escorts), or from the small ads in the local newspapers.

Most providers do both incall and outcall, although some of the solo-operators are outcall only. Outcall seems to cost a little more.

One of the nice effects of legalisation is that services can be quoted quite explicitly, like in Germany and Holland. The websites explain some of it, and on the phone you can get a lot more explicit detail if you ask.

Prices quoted went from NZ$80 (USD65,AUD70,EUR45) 'special' (which I think meant a 20-minute quickie), to NZ$120/hour full-service from one of the unmarked brothels thru NZ$170/hour (USD140, AUD150, EUR95) for one of the independent operators, and upwards towards NZ$300 for the more obvious places (Splash Club, a very visible Massage Parlour/brothel located next door to a striptease bar called Mermaids on one of the main boulevards, which unfortunately I didn't get the chance to visit).

On one website I noticed an advert from a cute-seeming young Japanese lady named Lala, so tried her cellphone number. This turned out to be one of the $120/hr privee places, no booking required. Many asians, but also many others.

One of my pet hates in the Amsterdam RLD was the upselling scene, which has the same effect on me as a bucket of cold water.

Have you tried the Australian scene? There's a lot of it, and it's affordable.
