One question though, when is the best time to go for cooler weather and is it still busy enough then? Me, I don't like it too hot. For example, I prefer to go to the US late September to avoid the summer months.

Late Oct early Nov is when I think it is best to go. If you go christmas time expect it to be VERY busy with tourists.
