You Googled wrongly. possibly.
No, definitively ;-)
Check on 'Windhondenrennen in Nederland' - this should give you minimally a Dutch website with racing results and a Wikipedia article, giving 12 racing courses in NL and 3 in Flanders as well. Seems there are races, but on mainly amateur (duh, as if gambling does not exist in that universe) basis. This should be a decent start for you.
cheers,
Gaston. (Greyhound = Windhond - that should do the trick)

Hi Ams...I'm a big fan of dog racing too. A few guys i knew sold a dog to someone in Holland in the mid 90's ..I've just looked at the dogs form and it ran at Farmsum, Geldrop and believe it or not at a stadium in Amsterdam, it's last race there was 1999. If the stadium still runs i have no idea, but interesting stuff anyway.

hi ams here is the Europe part of the greyhound data website, I know that a lot of tracks only operate in Holland during the months of march to October. I was at the track in beerta once a dog I sold was running there in their Derby really different to racing in Ireland or the Uk. Anyway here is the link for tracks in mainland Europe http://greyhound-data.com/stadia.htm?land=eu&st=14010 .

This is a cruel sport where dogs spend 95% of their time caged and away from human or dog contact. The dogs are frequently killed, sometimes in inhumane ways, for merely not adapting to racing as pups, or for slowing as they get older. If a dog stumbles and falls while running at nearly 40 mph in a pack they can be seriously injured for (their now remaining short) life or even killed. Folks on this site do a lot of different things that some would find shocking, but I'm among the first to call for tolerance. What one chooses for one's self is a private matter. But this is not a case of voluntary choice. These dogs have no choice, nor power over their situation. Tolerance of cruelty to innocent creatures for mere amusement is no virtue. http://www.league.org.uk/our-campaigns/ ... und-racing

That's your opinion, and in my opinion it's totally misguided and totally incorrect, greyhounds absolutely love to chase, you will never see them happier than when they are racing...but i guess you've never experienced that first hand

Unfortunately they spend 95% of their time living in cages. And many are killed while still healthy because there are not enough homes to take them in when they retire.
I won't go on and on about this. I just think people should look into this and know what they are supporting. What utter rubbish how many racing kennels have you actually visited, i can assure you that they do not live in cages, they live in kennels, these have to be meet specific standards and are inspected annually by a independent vet to make sure they are upto standard. You clearly have very little idea what you are talking about unfortunately.

neurosynth wrote: This is no way for a dog bred to run to live. Perhaps there are some better ones out there, but no kennel enclosure is big enough for permanent residency. I agree those kennels are nowhere big enough, I've been in lots of racing kennels and not seen anything like that, it simply wouldn't be allowed in the uk..where exactly are those pictures from and how many years ago where they taken because you definitely couldn't get away with that here. Incidentally i have owned racing greyhounds for the past ten years and i can assure you that the dogs are incredibly well looked after, get lots of daily excercise and are all rehomed as pets after their racing careers are over, i have 3 of my own at home and i would encourage anyone to have one of these lovely, gentle, loyal dogs as a pet as they truly are a lovely dog. To class everyone involved in greyhound racing as cruel is quite ridiculous and misplaced the vast majority care deeply...unfortunately you will always get the odd one that gives everyone a bad name, the same can be said about all other pets unfortunately, i could easily post up a million and one cases of other pets being abused in one way or another along with some shocking photos...does this mean that nobody should be allowed to have pets?

I'm sure there are well meaning people, and that some of the kennels are bigger and cleaner than others.
But IMHO kennels should only be for temporary situations and not a permanent way of life. Your right Ams its no good trying to educate the clueless and ignorant, its a bit like saying all prostitutes in Amsterdam are victims of human trafficking without ever actually going there and basing your assumptions on a few internet articles that have been written by an anti prostitution lobbyist. Tell me ..have you ever actually ever been anywhere near a greyhound or a greyhound kennel or is your knowledge ( i use the term very loosely) based on pictures posted by anti racing activists. By the way greyhounds also flourish in a kenneled environment but im sure with your great knowledge of the breed you would know that already.

Who says they don't get socialisation and human interaction? Is that more pearls of wisdom from someone who has never been to a kennel in his life??
