Happy New Year

BBC News 24 been running a report saying seventy AMSTERDAM coffee shops to close from today. Also showed residents who had to take on the Government to get a 'non smoking' sign for their residential square to stop tourists sparking up. Bizarre thing was it was only in Dutch, with no diagram.

I don't think its from today. I can't find anything in English, there are a few articles in dutch like this one.

My best guess from the articles in dutch is that 70 of Amsterdam's 220 coffee shops will close by 2015, which includes 26 of the 76 coffee shops in or near the Wallen, because they are within 350 yards from a school. However, the coffee shops can have priority on Amsterdam locations that become available outside the 350 yard boundary, so they have a good chance of merely relocating rather than closing.
