Burgemeester Halsema continues to pursue her stupid weed ban for tourists. It is anticipated the majority of the City Council will turn thumbs down on it this coming Wednesday.

my question is how are they going to be able to live up to this law in reality?
lets say that I want to buy some weed I could easily claim that I live and work in Holland with an proper address and everything.

I would be surprised Amsterdam would open up the social service registers so every coffee shop worker would be allowed to run their customers in a similar way like a social secretary does? Cant really see that happening ....

with that said, Im def open to harder fines for getting fucked up in the streets. however I think alcohol is the biggest problem for tourists who is pissing / puking in the streets at night...

While mayor Halsma has the power to enforce a ban, she does not seem to want to without council approval.
A majority of the council has already come out publicly against the ban, concerned about the obvious problem of street dealing. I don't think this has a chance, and none of my dutch friends think it has a chance, so there is a small chance that it goes into force, but it will be chaos.

The official vote is Wednesday.
So far, the Mayor only has 8 votes out of the 45 council seats.
All the coalition parties but one are against change.
This should be over in two days, then everyone can say they tried to fix things.
I;m sure it will come up again. It happens every few years.
But it never gets changed.
