The floating white eyesore which has graced the Oosterdok just outside of Centraal Station has been forced by the city to relocate. It's new location will be the NDSM wharf, just an inconvenient 15 minute (free) ferry boat ride away. The hotel also plans to offer free late-night shuttle service from Centraal Station. The NDSM wharf is home to several other curiosities, including a retired Russian submarine, an old Greenpeace ship, a sailing vessal and others. It's a mildly interesting location, but it's difficult to imagine tourists wanting to stay there, commuting back and forth to the city. The people at NDSM wharf, which has tried to cultivate itself as a trendy area, are said to not be very pleased with the new resident, which specializes in providing lodgings for low budget tourists. |
