Meanwhile in London, Paul Raymond, the proprietor of the Raymond Reviewbar in Soho, died at 82 . We were there once, and it was weird, as you'd imagine any establishment to be in Soho. The article fails to mention that the place made a memorable appearance in the brilliant 1986 film Mona Lisa, which depicts the sordidness of Soho with precision—ever since we've pictured Paul Raymond as the evil mob character portrayed by Michael Caine, the evil proprietor of Raymond Reviewbar, which plays itself. And since we're speaking of sordid places: We're willing to bet money that Raymond Reviewbar also inspired Amsterdam's Casa Rosso. |
