Nedim Imac, the former chairman of the amateur Turkish football club, FC Turkiyemspor, was shot several times by unknown assailants as he entered a restaurant in what news reports described as a "liquidation". Imac died at the scene on Jan Rebel Street in the Osdorp area of Amsterdam. Imac resigned his position with the club last year, citing family reasons, but continued to be involved in its affairs. He is credited with having led it to the upper level of amateur football in the Netherlands. Earlier this month it became known that the club was being investigated for tax evasion and had submitted a demand for 1.3 million euros (1.7 million dollars).
