It's official. The 150-year-old chestnut tree that Anne Frank wrote about in her diary, whilst in hiding from a former Dutch government, is to be chopped down. The tree suffers from a rotting fungus disease and moth infestation. The date of execution hasn't been decided yet. The Anne Frank Museum said grafts already have been taken and a sapling from the original chestnut will eventually replace it---in about 150 yrs when it grows up. This is sure to be a highly profitable venture for the Anne Frank Museum. Imagine a commemorative Anne Frank souvenir toothpick! Or even better, a partnership with Magnum Ice Cream; a new Anne Frank edition of the popular ice-cream treats, whose sticks are made from the wood of her beloved tree! Why not a full blown ad campaign!? Brilliant!!! |
